Announcements and Important Events
I first apologize for bugging all of you if this does not apply to you and your child's situation. I am simply trying to get the word out to as many people as possible.
There has been some confusion already about student-athletes participating in more than one sport/ activity in the same season. Here's the district's stance on this, and it has not changed from previous years:
Students will be allowed to participate in two sports during the same season as listed in the athletic handbook. Each situation depending on the student's priority sport and the practice/ game schedule can make this a tricky conflict to navigate. It's up to the parent, the athlete, the coaching staff and myself to come up with an individualized plan for each student choosing to do both sports.
Please understand that if a student misses a practice to attend another practice still counts as a missed practice and could determine playing time or placement on a team. For example, an athlete may not start on a team, or play as much as he/ she would if they were at practice all day every day. This is up to the coaches to determine playing time,, and the athlete will know ahead of time what is expected.
As we get closer to the start of the school sports season (August 15) the coaches, athletes, parents and myself will be discussing a plan for each and every dual sport athlete at EPHS and will try our best to develop a plan for every student athlete that best serves each athlete.
We will create a contract based on input from both coaches, the parents, the student and myself to ensure that we are all on the same page in order to allow a student to participate in two sports. These meetings should happen in early August, and I will be in touch with parents to schedule these meetings. We all must work together to provide the very best experience for the student.
Please contact me directly with specific concerns or questions at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will be able to provide you with more detailed information.
Thank you and enjoy the rest of your summer. If you're like me, it's going very fast!
